Woodford County Sheriff’s Office
The Woodford County Sheriff’s Office is located at 103 South Main Street Versailles, KY 40383 in the heart of the Bluegrass region of Kentucky.
We are a full service agency consisting of the Sheriff, 8 full time deputies, 3 full time and 2 part time Court Security Officers and two full time administrative employees.
Our duties include tax collection, as bailiffs for the court system, patrol the county and serve civil and criminal process. We have two deputies that teach the DARE program in Woodford County Schools. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office is proud to be in partnership with the Versailles Police department Cops For Kids program to provide presents at Christmas time to deserving children.
Sheriff John Wilhoit
Sheriff John Wilhoit began his law enforcement career with the Versailles Police Department in 1986, moving thru the ranks to become the Chief of Police in August 2005 until he retired in 2015. Wilhoit began as a patrol officer where he specialized in the reconstruction of motor vehicle collisions and was a charter member of the Versailles Police department’s Special Response Team. As police chief, Wilhoit oversaw major drug investigations in Woodford County that resulted in stopping a pill mill operation from Florida and one of the first Federal Court convictions for trafficking in Heroin in Kentucky that was a direct result of a drug overdose that resulted in a death. Sheriff Wilhoit pledges that the Sheriff’s office will continue to investigate and assist other agencies in any violations of state or federal drug laws.
Wilhoit also oversaw the operation of the police contract for Woodford County, in which the Versailles Police Department provided police services to all of Woodford County. He lead 50 employees and was responsible for managing multi-million dollar budgets. A life long Woodford County resident, Wilhoit is a graduate of Woodford County High School, is married with three children and two grandchildren.
